Livingston County HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International,
a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. We seek
to eliminate substandard housing. We are committed to helping
local, low-income families finance and construct their own
affordable homes.
What
we do...
The
ultimate goal of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate poverty
housing from the face of the earth by building safe, decent,
affordable housing. Habitat is not a giveaway program. It
is a partnership in which those who benefit from the program
are involved directly in every aspect of the mission.

We
achieve affordability because:
- One
hundred percent of the labor needed to build a Habitat house
in Livingston County is performed by volunteers, including
300 hours of "sweat equity" for singles and 500
hours for married couples.
- We
sell the homes at cost, and use the proceeds from our mortgages
to build more homes.
Who
pays for these homes and how are they built?
- Habitat
homes are financed by donations from individuals and groups
in our community.
- The
families pay for the cost of building their homes with a
thirty-year, interest-free mortgage that Livingston County
Habitat for Humanity holds.
